Blog Content: The Longer the Better. Good news for biz storytelling

Blog Content: The Longer the Better. Good news for biz storytelling | Writing_me | Scoop.it
Since Google dropped the Hummingbird patch, there’s been a new secret ingredient to getting noticed on the Internet: longer content equals higher rankings. Google indicated that content totaling 2,000 words versus 500 or less will rank higher on search engines. We here at Express Writers were skeptical at first.

The end of succinct at last...

Lynn O'Connell for O'Connell Meier's curator insight, February 26, 2014 2:20 AM

IMHO, your content should be the length it needs to be to tell your story -- no shorter, no longer.  Don't be afraid of long posts as the people who are interested WILL read to the end. (And they are the ones you want to reach!) On the flip side, don't pad posts just to reach an arbitrary Google SEO number.

Good news for longform addicts. :-)

11 Common Blogging Mistakes That Are Wasting Your Audience’s Time

11 Common Blogging Mistakes That Are Wasting Your Audience’s Time | Writing_me | Scoop.it

Quick question: Do you know anyone who doesn't suffer from information overload? We live in a world full of cheap information.

Alessandro Rea's insight:

At the push of a button we can get our eyes on far more ideas, blog posts, and news stories than we could ever possibly consume.

It’s hard to remember — or imagine, if you’re a lot younger than me — when information was a scarce resource. But time is a scarce resource. It always will be. And with information everywhere, it is imperative that you treat your readers’ time with respect when they give it to you.

Especially if you want to build trust with your audience so they give you more of their time in the future.

Optimize Your WordPress Blog Content with Google's Markup Helper

Optimize Your WordPress Blog Content with Google's Markup Helper | Writing_me | Scoop.it

If you’re blogging on WordPress and looking for an easy way to move your blog content higher up in search engine results pages (SERPs), schema is a great way to do it.

Schema is a markup language that you can use to highlight important information about your content — information that will be indexed by search engines used to determine its ranking. It was created by the four major search engines — Google, Microsoft, Yandex, and Yahoo — in an effort to help them present better results for searchers’ queries. And if schema is something those four are looking for, it’s something worth having in your content marketing arsenal.

Why Consistent Blog Content Boosts SEO & Builds Authority

Why Consistent Blog Content Boosts SEO & Builds Authority | Writing_me | Scoop.it
Alessandro Rea's insight:

One of the most helpful SEO practices a marketer can do for a business is to blog once a week. As an inbound marketing agency, we recommend this practice for every client. The clients that take us up on this advice and let us implement a weekly blog for them see traffic to their site increase within 6 months. Most see traffic double within a year. As this graph shows, the organic traffic to one client site nearly tripled last year:

22 Secrets Of Power Bloggers - Jeffbullas's Blog

22 Secrets Of Power Bloggers - Jeffbullas's Blog | Writing_me | Scoop.it
Alessandro Rea's insight:

I was watching Seth Godin who is one of the worlds top bloggers, being interviewed the other day on an online video.

I had never seen him on video before or even seen a photo of him except for his blog photo which is a rather memorable partial image. What really intrigued me was that my first impression (which frankly is still embedded) was that he is the “Woody Allen” of social media both in manner, speech and great insight.
